Domestic Violence is a pattern of assaultive and controlling behaviors including physical, sexual and psychological attacks against the victim and their children.  The destruction of property or violence against a family pet in retaliation is also considered domestic violence.  It is a widespread societal problem with consequences reaching far beyond the realm of family.  It is a crime that has devastating effects on victims and their children.

 

Abuse does not discriminate, it occurs in every ethnic background, race, religion, educational level, income, age, gender and martial status.  It can be emotional, verbal, sexual, possessional and/or financial.
