Administrative Division
The Administrative Division of the
Pitt County Sheriff’s Office encompasses the Office, personnel,
financial and the department’s management information system.
Our office hours are 8:00 am
through 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Our
office is located in the Pitt County Courthouse. Entrance is on
the Third Street side of the courthouse. Our telephone number is
902-2800. We attempt to provide as much information to the public
over the telephone as possible. We are happy to provide you with
information concerning outstanding civil and criminal process on
subjects, however, this information is provided in person only,
with proper identification.
Fees for reports are $2.00 per
report. The cost of having a civil action processed by this
department is $15.00 per defendant for North Carolina plaintiffs
and $17.00 per defendant for out of state plaintiffs.
The fee for a gun permit is
$5.00. You may obtain a gun permit in Pitt County if you are a
permanent resident of Pitt County, you are at least 21 years of
age and you have committed no serious traffic offenses, serious
misdemeanors or felonies. Also, there may be no pending court
actions against you. To obtain a gun permit, an application must
be completed and submitted for a criminal background check. In
order to be issued an application, you must present valid
Identification with a picture I.D. The I.D. must display your
Pitt County address. Upon approval of the application, you will
be charged $5.00 per gun permit issued. There is a limit of four
permits per application (or five if you are a Concealed Carry
Permit holder).
Fingerprinting services are
offered at the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. There is a $10.00
fee for this service. Fingerprints are done every Tuesday
morning, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Concealed Carry Permit
Applications are accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 – 11am and
2 – 4pm. First time applicants should bring the Certificate of
Completion for the required Firearms Course, a North Carolina
Driver’s License and for former military personnel, a Certificate
of Honorable Discharge or a copy of a DD-214. Applicants will be
fingerprinted and this information submitted to the SBI for the
issuance of the Concealed Carry Permit. The cost is $100 for the
first time applicant (Renewals are $95.00). There is an
approximate 30 to 45 day period from application to issuance.
This period could be as long as 90 days.
Sex Offender Registration is
handled at the Sheriff’s Office Front Desk. This task may be
completed during regular business hours by one of the clerks.
