The D.A.R.E. CURRICULUM

Project D.A.R.E. is organized into 10 weeks of 45-to 60- minute sessions to be conducted by a certified D.A.R.E. officer. The curriculum is taught to 5th. Grade students. Emphasis on positive ways to say no to drugs Vs the traditional scare tactics that have not worked in past years is the prime focus. The positive lessons are used to reinforce the student’s own values and teach new concepts. Students are taught to make decisions by examining consequences and by labeling risks as reasonable, or poor.

At the conclusion of the D.A.R.E. curriculum, students write an essay on the many ways they have learned to stay drug free and the many alternatives to using drugs.  A graduation assembly gives the students a chance to

sing songs or perform skits about the dangers of drug use with classmates, teachers, parents, and the community present. The graduation ceremonies are important to the youths and many times very emotional. This is due to their love of the D.A.R.E. Program and the impact the D.A.R.E. officer has had on their lives.
