PREVENTION:  THE ANSWER

As hard as law enforcement has tried to reduce and eliminate drug dealers and users, the demand for  drugs is enormous. To effectively battle the problem, an enormous amount of prevention must be included in our duties. We are very proud to have the D.A.R.E. program.  D.A.R.E. teaches young people at a very early age to recognize bad influences, build self-esteem, and to resist peer pressure from all sources.

The D.A.R.E. program has quickly spread across our nation and has been adopted in several other countries. Pitt County saw the need for prevention and aggressively sought  professional and committed officers to enhance this curriculum. These officers are dedicated to the cause of D.A.R.E.. The rapport built between the officer, their students, parents, and school staff is a lasting friendship. Pitt County Sheriff’s Office recognizes that the children are our future and are committed to fight drug abuse. One way is teaching prevention through our youth.
